Exploring the Wonders of Izumo Taisha<1/2>

I would like to introduce some preparatory points for visiting shrines that are closely related to the "Kojiki" while also enjoying them visually using Google Street View.

Now, I would like to introduce you to Izumo Taisha(”出雲大社”), where one of the most famous figures in Japanese mythology known for his romantic exploits, Ookuninushi, is enshrined. This shrine is renowned for its matchmaking benefits and for having one of Japan's largest shimenawa ropes!
  1. First, head to Inasa Beach!
  2. Don't forget to visit the Harai Shrine("祓社/はらいのやしろ").
  3. The Higashi-Juukusha Shrines("東十九社/ひがしじゅうくしゃ") are particularly recommended during Kannazuki.
    →the Month of Gods' Residing.
  4. Remember the principle of two bows, four claps, and one bow!
  5. You can also approach the Main Hall from the west side.
  6. Discover the hidden power spot of Soga no Yashiro("素鵞社").
  7. Don't be fooled by the shimenawa("しめ縄") of the hall of Worship("拝殿")!
1.First, head to Inasa Beach!

Let's visit Inasa no Hama("稲佐の浜"), located about 1km west of Izumo Taisha("出雲大社"). Don't wonder why we're heading to the beach. just yet... Let's go check it out to obtain an item useful at the hidden power spot Soga no Yashiro("素鵞社") that I'll introduce later.

Inasa no Hama is a power spot where Takemikazuchi (”武甕槌神”) negotiated the transfer of the country.
It is also a historic beach where the Eight Million Gods ("八百万神/Yaoyorozu no Kami") who landed in Japan are said to have headed to Izumo Taisha from this location in October of the lunar calendar.

Furthermore, at this beach, don't forget to collect "sand," which is useful when visiting Soga no Yashiro, before heading to Izumo Taisha. The "sand" you collect at Inasa no Hama can be used as an offering.

2.Don't forget to visit the Harai Shrine("祓社/はらいのやしろ").

Before visiting the Main Hall, it is important to perform the purification ritual three times♪

The first purification ritual takes place here at "Harai Shrine"!
First, purify yourself here and then cross the "Harai Bridge(祓橋)" located at the foot of the sloping approach.
After passing through the pine tree-lined approach, it is recommended to perform the third purification ritual at the "Temizuya (water ablution pavilion/手水舎)".

3.The Higashi-Juukusha Shrines("東十九社/ひがしじゅうくしゃ") are particularly recommended during Kannazuki.
→the Month of Gods' Residing.

In the traditional Japanese calendar, the month of October is commonly known as "Kannazu(神無月)" or "the month without gods." However, at Izumo Taisha Shrine, deities from all over Japan gather for a conference and the shrine holds the "Kamiarizuki" festival. During this time, the deities stay in a building called "Jūkyūsha(十九社)" or the "Nineteen Shrines" for lodging.
