The Importance of the "ukei(誓約/vowing)"

In Japan, we used to kick off our shoes with our friends after school and chant, "Come on, weather, be sunny!”♪
"Ukei(誓約/vowing)” in a way is also about this sense.

The reckless behavior of Susanoo led to the ritual known as "ukei" or "vowing" with Amaterasu.
In this ritual, Amaterasu bit and shattered Susanoo's sword, producing three goddesses, while Susanoo shattered Amaterasu's jewel, producing five gods.

These five gods were the only offspring mentioned in the "Kojiki," leaving the possibility of Amaterasu having other children unclear. 

The significance of this story is not only in the vowing ritual but also in the relationship between Amaterasu and Susano'o and the birth of the five male gods.
